Check Out These Home Remedies for Itchy Armpits

Contents

Although it’s tucked away, and usually not visible to you, a prime spot for discomfort can be your armpit. You may not be able to see a rash right away, but in some situations, irritation can be excruciating when you have an itchy armpit.

In the underarm region, armpit itching, or pruritus, is a feeling of persistent prickly discomfort. It is not painful per se but can be extremely unpleasant and sometimes unbearable.

Having inexplicably itchy armpits can trigger so much scratching that it can cause damage to your skin. Here is a list of some natural home solutions or remedies for itchy underarms.

DIY Relief and Prevention

Use an ice pack to immediately relieve the itching or burning symptoms if you experience pain caused by itching. You can also try a full-body itch-relief warm bath with colloidal oatmeal, aloe, and unscented moisturizers to soothe the skin.

For prevention, eating more vitamin C foods (citrus fruits, broccoli, tomatoes) can help prevent infections. That’s because vitamin C is a fantastic antioxidant boost to your immune system. Also, a slice of lemon applied topically can help kill bacteria.

Baking soda can also reduce bacteria and can facilitate drying out excessive sweating. Rashes can also be treated with certain essential oils such as lavender, tea tree, or coconut oil.

Furthermore, they also relieve itchiness and irritation and prevent fungal infections while giving your underarms a pleasant smell. Simply apply a cotton swab and you’re all right to go.

Apply a Cool Compress

Place an ice pack or a damp towel against the skin of your itchy armpit. You could also place a handful of ice cubes in a plastic bag and hold it against the surface. This would reduce skin itching and burning.

For heat itchiness and rashes caused by lichen planus, an inflammatory skin condition, this technique is particularly useful. As often as you want, apply a cool compress to your armpit, but spend a good 10 to 15 minutes every day using it.

Stop Eating Foods or Using Products That May Cause Allergies

Some allergies to foods and products can lead to irritating itchiness, eczema, and skin rashes. Milk, eggs, soy, shellfish, nuts, wheat, and fish are the most common food allergies.

If, after consuming a certain kind of food or using a specific product, you find that you frequently experience itchiness in your underarm region or elsewhere, avoid eating that food or using that product.

Switch Deodorants or Detergent and Get a New Razor

You might already assume that the culprit causing the itch in your underarms is that you have recently changed antiperspirants or laundry detergent. You can check that by switching again: the case is solved if the itchiness stops.

Brands that are all-natural and allergen-free are available. What can also help keep your underarms untroubled by itch is a new shave razor and soothing shave cream.

Over-the-Counter Treatment Options

Calamine lotion, hydrocortisone cream, or ketoconazole, nystatin, or clotrimazole-containing remedies are over-the-counter cures that can help. They assist with itching, rash, or fungal infections.

You can always ask for advice or guidance from your nearest pharmacist for over-the-counter treatments.

Anti-chafing powders can also be bought, and if there is an allergic flare-up, antihistamines (Benadryl, Claritin, or Allegra) can be used to soothe itching symptoms during the day and night.

Conclusion

An itchy armpit can be an annoyance or a symptom of a serious condition. We hope that these natural remedies are the solutions that bring you back to comfort if itchiness comes to find you.

But even though home remedies can be beneficial, if relief seems unlikely, do not hesitate to seek professional help.
