If you’re a curly-haired girl, then you probably know the challenges behind managing that curly hair too. Curly hair can look absolutely beautiful but only if you’re giving your hair the right products.
When we say products, we don’t mean gels and products full of glycerin and other harmful chemicals. The best way to complement your naturally curly hair is to only use natural products on it! You and I both know the harm commercial hair gels can cause.
This article will enlighten you with all the different DIY hair gel recipes that you can use on your curly hair without taking the help of any nasty chemicals – here’s to saying goodbye to hair dryness, split ends, and other hair fall problems too!
Commercial hair gels are loaded with chemicals and drying ingredients like alcohol, which makes your hair breakage-prone, irritates the scalp because of product buildup, and ruin the natural shine of your curly hair.
However, if you decide to switch to natural products that you can whip yourself, you might save your hair from being destroyed!
The real reason why many people suggest switching to natural hair gels is because they are extremely gentle on your hair and scalp. Many nourishing ingredients like aloe vera and lemon juice can make your hair bouncy and gives it the shiny texture that we all crave.
So, if you’re convinced about switching to natural hair gel products, let’s move on to an easy and simple recipe for your curly hair’s DIY gel.
Suggested by the hairstylist and owner of Eliut Salon in NYC, Eliut Rivera, this recipe can help you solve all of your curly hair problems.
½ teaspoon of gelatin
1 cup warm water
You can also customize this recipe according to your own preference in regards to scent and the gel’s hold. If you want a stronger hold, then you can add ¼ teaspoon of gelatin in the recipe but if you’d prefer a normal hold, then a ½ teaspoon of gelatin should do just fine.
For a stronger, more attractive scent, essential oils can do wonders. Plus, using essential oils means your gel will be free from any sort of synthetic ingredients, so even better for your hair!
However, it is recommended by Kerry E. Yates, CEO of Color Correctives, that you add the fragrance whenever you want to use the gel rather than add it all together in the big batch – this will help avoid premature spoilage.
Simply take some gel out whenever you want to put it on your hair, and then add the essential oils in it; do consider the fact that too much oil may ruin the viscosity of your gel, and will make it less effective.
For the essential oils, you can use Bergamot, Lavender, and Lemon. All of these natural ingredients are extremely beneficial for your hair, and the scent they leave would make your hair smell fresh.
Lavender also gives off a very therapeutic effect, which can help you calm your nerves down while simultaneously moisturizing your scalp. Bergamot will give your hair the kick it needs for growth and lemon will unclog and strengthen hair follicles.
You can easily store your DIY hair gel in a dark glass jar with a tightly sealed cap. If you don’t prefer using gelatin, then you can also go for aloe vera by gathering its pulp.
However, if you don’t have the time to make a hair gel, then use a dollop of body lotion or a moisturizing face mask on the outer layer of your hair. Using these simple ingredients can give you your very own healthy hair gel in no time!
This DIY hair gel will ensure that your gorgeous curly hair takes no damage whatsoever because of harmful products. They are not only safer but also quite light on the pocket too!
Next time you are tempted to head over to the store and pick up that hair gel product, consider this recipe instead. You won’t regret it.
