Learn the Basics of Skin Care

Contents

Daily, the average individual uses nine different personal care products, while at least 25% of women use 15 or more products. With new products being launched all the time, there are thousands of skincare products available in the market.

With the vast array of price ranges, just choosing a body soap can leave a person feeling overwhelmed. By merely looking at all the cleansers, toners, serums, and creams available, one trip to the skincare aisle will have your head spinning.

The reality is, to be effective, a skincare routine does not need to be complex. Cleansing, moisturizing and applying sunscreen are the three necessary steps of a skincare routine. Check out the basics of skincare below.

Cleanse Your Skin

The dirt, oil, and bacteria you came in contact with throughout the day, or at night when you sleep, are removed by a cleanser. This first step is crucial in your routine. Cleansing your face will help you start and finish your day with fresh skin.

Besides, after cleansing, you would get the most value from the brands you use because your skin will be clear of any dirt and contaminants that will affect the way products are absorbed.

If you have oily skin, you should look for foaming cleansers that reduce excess oil and pore-clogging bacteria. If you are suffering from dry skin, you should opt for hydrating cleansers to preserve the skin’s moisture barrier.

Too strong or abrasive cleansers can damage skin health and result in dryness, irritation, and inflammation. They can, in turn, lead to outbreaks of chronic skin diseases such as eczema and psoriasis.

Find the Right Moisturizer

To replenish the water it loses during the day, your skin requires moisturizing ingredients like ceramides and hyaluronic acid in moisturizers will give your skin with the good hydration it deserves to remain smooth, luscious, and vibrant.

Particularly if you have oily or combination skin, moisturizing is always necessary. In truth, to compensate for it, a lack of moisture can push your skin to generate more oil, that can turn to clogged pores and acne.

Don’t Forget About Sunscreen

The basic principles of sun protection are already common: limit midday sun exposure (between 10 am and 4 pm),  wear clothing, wide-brimmed hats that protect the skin, and sunglasses, and, of course, wear SPF 30 or higher sunscreen.

During what seems like a reasonable time to do so, others just use sunscreen, like on a sunny day at the beach. But it is necessary to put sunscreen on daily.

You can also reduce the effects of photoaging, such as dark spots and wrinkles, in addition to decreasing your skin cancer risk

SPF is included in many moisturizers and cosmetics, making it possible for you to get the protection from the sun you need without the need for many products.

Ensure the formula includes broard-spectrum SPF 30 or higher to guarantee you’re as protected as possible, whether you obtain your protection from stand-alone sunscreens or cosmetic products.

Bottom Line

When you have all your products, it’s time to bring them together for your morning and evening routine. When it comes to skincare, consistency is important, so make sure that any regimen you establish is one you can execute daily.

Nobody has flawless skin. It could be dry or oily for you, or you might get acne and rashes.  Pay close attention to all areas of your skin so that you can spot any changes that might suggest more serious problems.

For more serious skin issues, talk to a skin specialist, be it an aesthetician at your nearest salon or a dermatologist. When you have a concern, go to the doctor immediately.
