Eat Fruits and Veggies

Before you get to the chemical solutions for cleaning your teeth, how about you start with the most natural way of doing things? There’s a ton of reasons why you should eat vegetables for your body health, but they’re also important for your teeth.

In fact, both fruits and vegetables are important in the whitening of your teeth. It is said that the crunching of raw fruits can help clear plaque away. And there are certain fruits that have a better reputation for whitening the teeth than others.

Some of the fruits that are said to have teeth whitening properties include strawberries and pineapples.

In terms of strawberries, a number of celebrities have been using the fruit with a combination of baking soda to help keep their teeth white. And pineapples contain bromelain, which helps with plaque and gingivitis.

Hydrogen Peroxide

Now, to the chemical parts of cleaning your teeth and this is where you have to consider hydrogen peroxide. This is one of the favored ways that has been in use to whiten teeth for a number of years and for good reason too.

The concentration is one that can be used to kill off bacteria and hence whiten your teeth. Here, however, you need to be careful as you need the right percentage of hydrogen peroxide to do the job.

The standard concentration sold at pharmacies of 3% is the best for you to use in your mixture. You then have to dilute the concentration with water for it to be safe for use.

For example, if you’re using 1 liter of the normal 3% hydrogen peroxide solution, you need to dilute that with 2 liters of water. Essentially you want 2 parts water to 1 part hydrogen peroxide.

This will bring the overall concentration to around 1.5%. This is safe enough to use, although you shouldn’t use the concentration more than once or twice a week.

When you use hydrogen peroxide, you gargle it for a few minutes and when you spit it, ensure that it doesn’t touch your face as it can easily cause irritation

Baking Soda

Another thing you can use to whiten your teeth is baking soda. Baking soda already has some natural whitening properties making it an instant hit for teeth whitening.

And that’s why a number of toothpaste products have it as part of the ingredients.

The only problem that you face when you use baking soda to clean your teeth is that it takes a lot more time than you may expect. You will see some improvement on your teeth when you use it consistently and accurately.

The other reason why you want to use baking soda is that it creates an environment that bacteria can’t grow in – an alkaline environment. And if bacteria can’t thrive in your mouth then you have a better chance to keep your teeth white.

When you consider this route, use 1 part baking soda and 2 parts water. For example, if you’re using a glass of baking soda, you should use two glasses of water to create the mixture.

Conclusion

You can obviously whiten your teeth without having to go to the dentist as there are a number of do-it-yourself measures you can consider. The above methods are the simplest with ingredients you can find anywhere.
