[/nextpage][nextpage]Not The Best Seat Ever
Imagine the excitement when your favorite team is finally fighting the match you’ve been waiting for for so long. It would be even worse if this is the first time you ever buy a football ticket to watch them! You go to the entrance, show your ticket, and excitedly look for your assigned seat… only to discover this not-so-great column obstructing your view! Although it might seem impossible, keep in mind that numerous stadiums around the world have the same issues, such as columns, walls, or other constructions that block some spectator’s visibility. That’s some bad luck!
Ekaterinburg Arena
When the World Cups approach, all nations go beyond their powers to be a suitable candidate to host them. In 2018, Russia also took some unbelievable and, to some point, funny steps to ensure that they are the best host. Some countries go to all extents to ensure that their establishments are suitable for the regulations, which state that the venue should host a minimum of 35,000 spectators. Well, Ekaterinburg Arena could only have 25,000 at the time, so the owners decided to create this funny addition to the initial venue, protruding from one side.
[/nextpage][nextpage]The Rayo Vallecano Stadium
Rayo Vallecano is a Madrid institution that might not be among the best in the capital, but they remained one of the first in the Spanish League. One peculiar aspect is that it seems unfinished since it has one end without any stands. There is only one wall, and you can easily see the buildings in the city as though the stadium was built overnight and still needs finishing. Apart from the aesthetics, this also proved to be very dangerous. During the 2018-2019 season, a child fell down due to the poorly developed structure. Fortunately, he was not hurt, but they had to close the stadium to make “improvements for security reasons”.
[/nextpage][nextpage]South African Style in Spain
This might seem like the biggest waste of all time. Most of the stadiums that were built in 2010 would make the economists utterly desperate. Huge venues costing millions of dollars were built only for a few matches, but their construction was simply abandoned afterward. A project in Spain was supposed to host up to 60,000 spectators, and the work started in 2007. However, no one finished the building. Similarly, La Cartuja de Sevilla was built for the 1999 World Athletics World Cup, but it was never used since then. Such a waste of finances!
[/nextpage][nextpage]Balaidos
If you believe in curses, keep reading. This stadium seems absolutely unbelievable. Balaidos went through so many unfortunate events that many people nowadays have no idea what to do with it. In 2017, a match against Real Madrid was planned in the venue, but it ended up being postponed. A few hours before the match, an iron plate from the ceiling fell on the stands. Fortunately, the venue was empty at the time of the collapse.
[/nextpage][nextpage]Why Do We Need Stadiums?
In Avellaneda, Buenos Aires, two rivals have their stadiums within a few meters. Other teams that inaugurated more stadiums are Tottenham Hotspur and Atletico de Madrid. However, the new venues are not always what the fans need or want. In fact, the Gran Canaria Stadium does not even have much accessibility or a good spot because of the vast distance from the stands. In some cases, even too many stadiums are too many.
[/nextpage][nextpage]Sharing Seats?
The regulations that stadiums now have are in place in order to protect both the players and the audience. The history of FIFA was not always undisturbed, such as the Heysel Tragedy back in 1985. At one particular match, the excited Liverpool supporters overfilled the stands well beyond the safe limit. This caused them to fall in an avalanche, breaking the walls and the stands. The sad event led to 39 deaths and more than 600 injured people.
[/nextpage][nextpage]David Beckham’s Stadium
We all know the legend of David Beckham and his undisputable skills. What others might or might not know is that he always wanted to launch a new stadium, but his problems seem to have no limit. Initially, the people living in the area did not agree with the new building because of the many inconveniences it would cause to them. After he managed to sort this one out, along came another one: the land on which the construction was supposed to be built was found to be contaminated with high levels of barium and arsenic.
[/nextpage][nextpage]Crammed Rows
The Celta de Vigo stadium was renovated with the purpose of enhancing the experience. However, football supporters did not hesitate to throw their anger at the leadership, which certainly did not think it through. The space between the rows is so limited that no one could sit comfortably, ending up with the knees against the seat in front of them. Many photos followed, showing fans’ discontent at the disaster, wondering which architect agreed with these renovations. The club blamed the Council of Vigo for following up with the construction.
[/nextpage][nextpage]The Largest Stadium In The World
When we think about the host country of the largest stadium in the world, we would tend to believe it is undoubtedly in Europe; England or Spain, perhaps. This couldn’t be any more wrong – in fact, the largest stadium is in North Korea. The venue can host up to 150,000 spectators. Despite its capacity, most people argue that it is, well, ugly. We did not see this one coming!
[/nextpage][nextpage]Azteca Stadium
Azteca Stadium has a long and beautiful history. Diego Maradona’s goal can still be felt here during the 1986 World Cup held in Mexico. At the time, the stadium could host 110,512 supporters, but it was renovated twice. Now, it only has 81,070 seats. A great highlight of the stadium is the breathtaking view from the stands. This is what helped the stadium become the host of 19 World Cup matches. One little known fact is that they wanted to change its name to Guillermo Canedo, according to the famous soccer manager, but the public was not happy about it.
[/nextpage][nextpage]Santiago Bernabeu Stadium

[/nextpage][nextpage]La Catedral
Similar to Allianz Arena, this stadium is extremely beautiful. In fact, when they decided to leave La Catedral behind, more than one supporter launched insults for this mistake. Athletic Club de Bilbao had no reason to envy the great Allianz, given this beautiful venue. It is definitely one of the most impressive stadiums in Europe, and it could host up to 53,289 spectators at once.
[/nextpage][nextpage]Ottmar Hitzfeld Stadium
This place is a true dream for any nature and football lover. Located in Gspon, Switzerland, this stadium is known as a dream come true. You might be wondering, what’s better than this? Well, keep reading!
[/nextpage][nextpage]The Stadium on Water
Can you imagine how it feels to play football on a floating field? Well, think about footballs continuously going over the borders. The floating stadium is found in Singapore, and it was inaugurated back in 2007. It was also part of the Youth Olympic Games three years later. With a capacity of 30,000 spectators, this stadium is unique in the world, as you probably guessed.
[/nextpage][nextpage]The Municipal Stadium of Braga
If you think you cannot be more surprised than this, well… The stadium of Braga has a mountain inside! It was built by Eduardo Souto de Moura, an architect who won the Pritzker Prize in 2003. The venue is considered to be a tribute to the beauty of space. It can host nearly 45,000 spectators, and it was the destination of several important matches, such as Brazil and Mexico, Sweden, and England during the quarter-finals and more.
[/nextpage][nextpage]A Tribute to Beauty
As we’ve seen, there are many beautiful and unique stadiums in the world. This stadium is nothing short of impressive, no matter which side you look at. This beauty is located in France, known as Matmut Atlantique. It is a beautiful venue that hosted numerous matches, including the one between Bordeaux and Montpellier in 2015, the last day of the league season. It also hosted 5 matches during the UEFA Euro 2016.
[/nextpage][nextpage]The Impossible Stadium
Finally, this stadium made the impossible turn possible. The United Arab Emirates undoubtedly make any dream come true, especially if the whole planet believes that they cannot do it. This is the home of the Al Ain local team who managed to reach the 2018 Club World Cup but left due to the penalties during the semifinals. The stadium was built on the rocky surface, so it is now known as the Rock Stadium. If you thought a stadium on the rocks defies logic, well, they made it come true!
