Recently, I have been crazy about making my own cosmetic products at home. From tonics to make-up removers, I almost tried everything. And it is now time to make my own coconut oil toothpaste with turmeric for whiter teeth.
Actually, this coconut oil toothpaste idea came when I was in the market. I run out of toothpaste and I tried to buy a toothpaste without those harmful ingredients. But it was a challenge. And I didn’t have that whiter teeth I was dreaming of.
So, this was may chance to try my own recipe. Like other DIY cosmetic products I have made, I decided to this toothpaste for me as well. Surprisingly, this coconut oil toothpaste with turmeric was super easy and fun to make.
Before talking about all the ingredients and how to prepare the recipe, I want to talk about benefits of turmeric. Turmeric is an amazing herb and I love using this herb in my DIY cosmetics.
Benefits of Turmeric
Turmeric has numerous benefits. This herb has been used in making homemade beauty products for centuries. In addition to skin whitening properties, turmeric is also highly beneficial for teeth.
For this reason, turmeric is generally considered as one of the ideal ingredients in homemade toothpaste recipes.
Turmeric can help whitening the teeth. Also, turmeric is an amazing anti-bacterial herb. With this anti-bacterial properties, turmeric prevents plaque accumulation on your teeth.
What is more, turmeric can help you fight against bad breath.
Turmeric Stain
But there is one thing you need to be careful about using turmeric. This herb can stain your cloths while you are preparing your recipe. And this stain on textile may be permanent. So, if you will work with turmeric, it is always better to wear some old cloths.
Additionally, turmeric may leave yellow stains on your fingers if you contact with this herb. But it is super easy to remove the stain on your skin.
Just rub your fingers with milk and turmeric stain will disappear from your fingertips. If you don’t want any staining, you can always use gloves or just mix all the ingredients with a spoon.
Coconut Oil Toothpaste with Turmeric Ingredients
- 2 table spoons of raw organic coconut oil
- 1 tea spoon of turmeric
- 1 tea spoon of baking soda
- 4-5 drops of peppermint essential oil – optional
How to Make Coconut Oil Toothpaste with Turmeric
Just mix coconut oil, turmeric and baking soda in a bowl. Then, take this mixture into a small glass jar.
Baking soda here will help you to have whiter teeth. This ingredient is slightly abrasive and can clean all those stains on your teeth.
Also, peppermint essential oil is optional in this recipe. If the taste of coconut oil, baking soda, and turmeric is fine for you, you don’t need to add peppermint essential oil.
Generally, I add this essential oil for a sense of freshness and make toothpaste taste better. You can always try other options like orange essential oil in this recipe.
When you use this amazing DIY toothpaste regularly (twice a day), you will start to see difference in no time. Whitening property of turmeric will make your teeth whiter as well.
