Lavender homemade soap

  • 15 gr caustic (You can buy this ingredient from shops that sell cleaning agents. But since this is a dangerous ingredient, never contact directly and keep away from children.)
  • 30 ml pure water
  • 120 ml olive oil
  • 10 ml lavender oil
  • Dried lavender flower and leaves

  • Protective goggle
  • Gloves
  • Hand blender
  • Wooden spoon
  • Pot
  • Medium glass bowl
  • Mould to shape soap

First, make sure that you ventilate the environment. Never make homemade soap in closed environment as you will use caustic. Wear your protective goggles, and gloves and get ready to make homemade soap.

Then, add caustic to the glass bowl. Add pure water on caustic and mix. Try not to spill while mixing. When you mix these ingredients, wait for a while for the mixture to cool down. You may see gas coming out of this mixture. This is perfectly normal. But avoid inhaling this gas. It is better to mix the ingredients in open area.

Add olive oil to a pot. Heat the oil until 40°C and remove from heat. Add caustic mixture to olive oil and mix with hand blender. When you have gel-like consistency, add lavender oil and dried lavender flowers and leaves.

Take the mould and add lavender flower. Then pour the mixture. Lastly, sprinkle lavender flowers on the mixture and let it cool. If you want, you can cover the mould with a cloth and wait for 24 hours without moving the mould.

Take the DIY soap out of mould after 1 day. Keep the soap for 1-2 months in dry environment and use it as you like. That is it.

Important note: We explained how to make lavender soap and we emphasised how dangerous caustic is. Of course, you can do more than homemade lavender soap with this method. Instead of lavender oil, you can add cinnamon, rosemary, and almond oil to make different soaps.

You can also make DIY soap from ash: Olive oil soap ingredients and preparation:

If you don’t want to use a dangerous ingredient like caustic, you can always go for ash. In these soaps, wood ashes called white ash are preferred.

  • Clean (white) ash
  • 30-40 ml water
  • 120 ml olive oil
  • 1 pinch rock salt

  • Protective goggle
  • Gloves
  • Wooden spoon
  • 2 pots
  • Mould to shape soap

In this method, we will not use caustic. So, it is safer than other method. But still try to protect your eyes and hands and try to make the DIY soap in open air.

Add clean wood ash to pot. Add water and heat the mixture, remove from heat before boiling. Cool down the mixture.

Put 1 egg in the mixture. If half of the egg is inside and the other half is outside, your ash ratio is correct. The egg sinks, add more ash. If the egg floats, add more water to achieve the correct ratio.

Then take another pot and heat olive oil up to 40°C. Cool down this oil and add ash water (you can also filter the water). Heat the pot and mix with wooden spoon at low heat. Add one pinch rock salt and continue mixing. When you have pudding like consistency, your homemade soap is almost ready.

Transfer the mixture in the mould, wait for 1-2 days without moving the mould, and solidify the soap. Remove the homemade soap from mould and wait for couple of months. Make sure that you store in dry and clean area. You can use the homemade soap after 1-2 months.
